ST. GEORGE — A homeowner who discovered a burglar inside his home Thursday held the man at gunpoint until police arrived to make an arrest.
The homeowner was in bed at about 4:30 a.m. Thursday when he heard a commotion in his house on Lone Rock Drive in St. George, according to Sgt. Sam Despain with the St. George Police Department. The homeowner took his handgun with him to find the source of the noise, and encountered an intruder in his home.
The homeowner told the man, 40-year-old Clinton Keller, to lie down on the ground. Keller complied, and the homeowner called 911.
"The homeowner was able to hold him there at gunpoint until officers got there," Despain said. "It worked out great for that homeowner and for us. We were able to make an arrest, no property was stolen and no one was injured or hurt; it was a great story."
Despain said it was hard to know exactly what was going through the homeowner's mind, but the man said he "just kind of acted."

"(He) wasn't concerned too much," Despain said. "He just did what he did almost out of instinct, I guess."
Despain said the homeowner "did a great job" and really helped police with the case.
"We are incredibly grateful for this homeowner and what he did," he said. "It was brave and it was a great conclusion to what could potentially have been a very bad situation."
Keller was booked into the Washington County Jail on suspicion of residential burglary and theft. Police found he had entered the house through an unlocked rear door.
"He had no reason to be in this neighborhood, no reason to be in this home," Despain said. "The homeowner did not know him in any way, shape or form."
